When Emily Reno was in junior high school her parents bought her a year’s worth of recycling service for their household. When the year was up, so was the present. Ever since, she has paid for her family’s recycling out of her own pocket and that strikes me as remarkable. How many kids do something like that? Emily’s greenness didn’t stop there. At Free State High School she was the president of the environmental club and now she’s a freshman at Johnson County Community College hoping to transfer to the Environmental Studies program at KU.
